BPM Essentials
For any Business Process Management initiative to be successful, you need to choose a BPM Suite that offers a core set of features that address the following:
- Designing a process, preferably through a graphical interface that is intuitive to a business user. Metastorm BPM offers a robust Process Designer uniquely created for defining and managing multiple, dynamic business processes and componentizing process elements (such as rules, forms, roles, flows, etc.) so that they can be easily changed. The Business User’s Edition of the process designer – a version that does not include the integration or automation engines – is available as a free download. This is a full-featured Process Designer that allows business users to model processes, develop forms, and design full process maps that can be automated and run with the rest of the Metastorm BPM suite.
- Automating a process with a one-step automation feature that is tied to the Process Designer – so that you only need to define a process once and quickly automate it. This also facilitates rapid process changes for greater agility. Metastorm BPM enables a one-step publishing feature that quickly transforms process maps into executable processes complete with forms, role definitions, and integration to other systems involved in the process.
- Managing and interfacing with a process through intuitive dashboards or “Process Portals” for all participants in a process regardless of their role – from business analyst to customer service rep to executive manager to IT administrator. Metastorm BPM offers several user interfaces including a web dashboard, a Microsoft Outlook interface, and a Microsoft SharePoint interface. You can choose one or leverage a combination of all three – and each can be adapted to the unique needs of a user. Real-time event management and Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) capabilities ensure that users can quickly identify and manage the highest priority items.
- Creating forms that eliminate paper within a process and serve as work items flowing through the process. Metastorm BPM offers a built-in graphical Forms Designer.
- Defining and maintaining business rules to automate as much of the process as possible and to ensure that consistent guidelines are enforced across multiple processes. Metastorm BPM offers both a basic rules engine as well as an Advanced Rules Engine depending on your needs.
- Integrating to systems that interface with each business process. One benefit of BPM is that it provides a single “process layer” across all of your existing enterprise applications and legacy systems, thereby shielding users from the complexity of IT infrastructure and enhancing productivity. Metastorm BPM provides an intuitive Integration Wizard that walks a user through the definition of integration points – allowing users to avoid complex coding and expedite the integration of multiple systems. For more complex integration challenges, the Metastorm Integration Manager is unmatched in its ability to leverage and manage legacy applications and automate large-scale, high-volume system-based processes.
- Reporting on and analyzing business processes to take advantage of historical and real-time data that is captured on processes. Metastorm BPM provides packaged reports that ship with the product as well advanced process intelligence and performance management capabilities through Metastorm Insight.
- Simulating process changes to evaluate options before implementing a new process or changes to an existing process. Metastorm BPM provides simulation capabilities as part of the Process Designer. Advanced process modeling, Six Sigma and other optimization methods can be achieved through Metastorm ProVisionBPA.
